Who and What is the “.am” Domain Name Registry?
The Registry of the “.am” country code top-level domain (ccTLD) and “.հայ”(.hay) Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) top-level domain name zones is the “Internet Society” Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) located in the Republic of Armenia. Also know as ISOC NGO (ISOC.AM) is delegated by the “ICANN” organization to manage the “.am” and”.հայ” domain zones.
What is AMNIC?
Armenia Network Information Centre-AM NIC (AMNIC.net), an organization authorized by the Registry ISOC NGO (ISOC.AM), that provides the uninterrupted operability of the software-hardware (network) complex in “.am” and “.հայ” domain zones, as well as distributes the information required to use domain names on the Internet that are registered in the registry database.

Registration services of “.am” and “.հայ” domain names can be provided by legal entities (Registrar) accredited by the “Internet Society” NGO (Registry) registered in and outside of the the Republic of Armenia.

Any physical and legal entity can register domain names in “.am” and “.հայ” domain name zones.

What does the Registry Database mean?
A registry database of “.am” and “.հայ” domain name zones comprise of information about domain names registered in “.am” and “.հայ” top level domain zones, as well as other mandatory information required to ensure the operability of domain names.
What is the “Whois” service?
Information provided on a domain name from the Registry database through a publicly accessible search engine.
Which domain names can be registered in the Registry database?
Second level domain names of “.am” and “.հայ” domain zones (eg. ” isoc.am”) and “.com.am”, ”.co.am”, “.org.am”, “.net.am”, “.commune.am”, “.համայնք.հայ”, third level domain names ( for example, “isoc.com.am” or “isoc.net.am”) are registered (renewed) in the Registry database.
What are the technical requirements for “.am” domain name?
The domain name must end by the “.am” domain extension, only permitted characters must be used in the domain name, Latin script small letters, 0-9 digits, including Latin font numbers, and hyphen:” – “.
The number of characters in the section preceding the “.am” domain extension must not exceed 63. A full list of detailed technical requirements can be found in the link below:

What are the technical requirements for “.հայ” domain name?
The domain name must end with “.հայ” extension, only permitted symbols must be used in the domain name, Armenian Unicode script, small letters of Armenian Unicode script, except “եւ”, “ու” letters, (instead of “եւ” letter it is recommended to use “ե” letter and “ւ” symbol and instead of “ու” letter it is recommended to use “ո” letter and “ւ” symbol), “ւ” symbol of Armenian Unicode script, 0-9 digits, including Latin font numbers, hyphen: “-”.
In “.հայ” extension preceding label of second level domain name the number of symbols converted into “Punycode” converter as mentioned in https://www.punycoder.com website must not exceed 63. There are other technical requirements, the full list of which can be found in the link below:

What are the restrictions on registering domain names?
Not subject to registration, if the given domain name presents itself as a cause of discrimination on account of a person’s sex or race, language, or religion, or age, or is violence or war propaganda, or is blasphemy, or is incompatible with the public interest. There are other restrictions, the full list of which can be found in the link Policy below:

How to register a domain name in “.am” and / or “. հայ ” domain zones?
The “.am” and “.հայ” domain name can be registered through participating Registrars.
What information is entered in the Registry database?
Along with the entry of the domain name, the following information is entered in the Registry database.
For physical entity:
-
The first name, last name, registered address or place of residence, and postal code:
-
The administrative, technical, and financial contacts data first name, last name, e-mail address, and telephone numbers. The domain name holder can also act as an administrative, technical, or financial contact person.

At least two, and up to a maximum of six names of Domain Name System (DNS) server.

The term of domain name usage cannot be entered for a term of less than one year.
For legal entity:
-
The name (business name or entity), the organizational-legal form, location (legal address), postal code the administrative,

Technical and financial contacts data first name, last name, e-mail address, and telephone number of legal entities.

At least two, maximum of six names of Domain Name System (DNS) server:

The term of domain name usage cannot be entered for a term of less than one year.
How long does it take to register a domain name in the “.am” and “. հայ” domain name zones?
Domain name registration takes from one to three business days.

In what cases is domain name registration refused?
Most common:
-
The domain name is already registered in the Registry database.
-
The “.am” and/or “.հայ” technical information is incomplete or does not fulfill the technical requirements as required by policy.
-
Attempting to register a domain that is reserved as part of the Governmental list of domain names of the Republic of Armenia.
-
Attempting to register a domain reserved for the needs of the Registry.

How long does it take for a domain name to be stored in the Registry database?
Once the domain is approved by the Armenia Network Information Centre-AM NIC (AMNIC.net) it will usually take up to 72 hours be stored in the Registry database and propagate on the internet. You can check approval and registration in the AMNIC Whois search.
The domain will be stored and maintained as long as the domain is active by the registrant and 45 days after the domain registration has expired.
After the domain has passed the 45 day grace period after expiration, the domain will be deleted from the registry and available for new registration.
When should the domain be renewed?
The domain name must be renewed before the domain name expires. When the domain is expired, users may or will lose access to functionality to email, website and data associated with the domain name.
You have 45 days after expiration to renew your domain.
Is it possible to renew the domain name after the expiration date?
Yes. Within 45 days after domain name expiration, the domain name holder has preferential right to renew it.
What are the restrictions on using domain names?
-
For the purpose of distributing pornographic material.
-
Distribution of materials that threaten the overall national security and stability, as well as protection of state borders of the Republic of Armenia.
-
Distribution of materials to instigate or commit criminal activity.
-
Distribution of spam.
-
Distribution or sale of prohibited products and services as mandated by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia. (Some exceptions apply only by approval)
-
Distributing materials prohibited by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia.

For the purpose of criminal trafficking or supporting its implementation in any form.

Can I not publish my personal data through the “Whois” service?
Issues related to the publication of personal data through the “Whois” service are regulated by the Policy of domain name registration, which can be found at the following link below:
“POLICY OF DOMAIN NAMES REGISTRATION IN “.AM” AND “.ՀԱՅ” DOMAIN ZONES” in section “12. THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE REGISTRY,” (point 40).

What should you do if you forget your domain name password?
Sign in to the following link if you forget your password and enter the required data. After filling in the data, a new password will be sent to the e-mail address of the person mentioned as an administrative contact of the registered domain name.

How to make owner change during the domain name usage period on the initiative of domain name holder?
The procedure for making owner changes during the domain name usage period is described in the Policy:
“POLICY OF DOMAIN NAMES REGISTRATION IN “.AM” AND “.ՀԱՅ” DOMAIN ZONES” in section “11. DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION ON INITIATIVE OF THE DOMAIN NAME HOLDER FOR THE PURPOSE TO CHANGE THE DOMAIN NAME HOLDER,” (point 33-35).
What can I do to terminate my right of domain name usage prematurely?
In order to terminate the right of domain name usage prematurely, it is necessary to contact and apply to your Registrar.
What should you do if you want to change the Registrar?
In order to change your domain name with the “.am” or “.հայ” domain extension from the current registration service provider that your domain is registered. You must apply to the new Registrar of your choosing and who supports “.am” and/or “.հայ” top-level domains.
You will need to coordinate with the current and receiving Registrars for steps to transfer your domain.
